Just sharing stuff…

UAAP Season 78 Men’s Basketball: UST vs UP

It was such an exciting and very intense match earlier between the UP Fighting Maroons and the UST Growling Tigers—the battle of the 2-0 teams! Those of us who could not catch the game live on TV or via the web earlier had to rely on Twitter to follow the game. The game was so intense that #UPFight and #goUSTe were trending on the social media platform.

Below are the observed trends in terms of the number of tweets recorded by the “listener” we** set up on our droplet that was tracking the hashtags #UPFight and #goUSTe. At some point, there were more tweets on #UPFight than #GoUSTe—this was during the time when UP alumni and students were cheering on the #UPMBT to close the “singko” and “tres” gaps.

I also captured the mention network of the Twitter accounts following the game, i.e. whenever a user’s tweet contains another Twitter user, a link is drawn between them. The nodes are then colored based on the content of the tweet—whether it contains #goUSTe (yellow-orange) or #UPFight (maroon).

The last image is a word cloud of the most frequently used words in the tweets excluding common words, numbers, #UPFight, #GoUSTe, #UP, and #UST.

Unfortunately, we lost. But, we’ve never been prouder! #UPFight!
